Introduction

Greetings and welcome to the Book of Extended Abstracts for the II International Conference on Language and Intercultural Communication Learning (LaICL’25), jointly hosted by the Águeda School of Technology and Management of the University of Aveiro and the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Polytechnic of Porto. Building on the success of its first edition, this year’s conference once again brings together a diverse community of scholars, educators and professionals to engage in dialogue around the theme “Exploring Intersections between Heritage, Communication, and Digital Humanities.”

Language and intercultural communication are at the heart of LaICL’25. In a world shaped by digital transformation and cultural diversity, these areas are key to understanding how people connect, create meaning and negotiate identity. The conference invites reflection on how communication practices, supported by digital tools and inspired by awareness of cultural heritage, can promote more inclusive and creative ways of learning and interacting. Through the lens of digital humanities, participants are also encouraged to explore how technology reshapes communication and education, bridging linguistic, cultural and disciplinary boundaries.

The works presented in this Book of Abstracts reflect LaICL’s interdisciplinary and collaborative spirit, spanning areas such as language education, digital literacy, intercultural competence, heritage studies and creative industries. Together, they illustrate how research and practice can enrich intercultural dialogue, foster ethical and inclusive digital engagement and connect tradition with innovation. In doing so, LaICL’25 reaffirms its mission to build bridges between languages, cultures and technologies, imagining more connected and sustainable futures.

Sincerely,
